Indian Restaurant Brunswick | Eat Drink Bhang

The door is easy to miss. The food isn't.

Eat Drink Bhang is an Indian restaurant and cocktail bar at 1/2A Mitchell St, Brunswick, just off Sydney Road. We're open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm, and walk-ins are welcome.

The room is a converted warehouse. The menu is Indian street food made for sharing, with slow-cooked curries and cocktails built around curry leaf, cardamom and tamarind.

Why Brunswick Locals Pick Bhang

Reasons People Come Back

  • Share everything. Order a few snacks and curries and pass them around.

  • Relax in a warehouse. It's casual, a little quirky, and nobody rushes you.

  • Sip something different. Our cocktails use Indian flavours, and so do our zero-proof drinks.

  • Say hi to the owner. Sway is usually out on the floor.

A Different Kind of Night Out

Plenty of places in Brunswick serve dinner. Not many put the food in the middle of the table and let everyone dig in. That's the idea here. You order a few things, the plates land together, and the night turns into a shared meal instead of a set of separate ones.

Meet Sway, the Owner Behind the Floor

20+ Years in Hospitality

Sway has spent more than 20 years in hospitality. She used to run another restaurant on Sydney Road in Brunswick, so she knows the suburb and the people who eat in it.

Hands-On, Every Night

Now she's at Eat Drink Bhang most nights. She works the floor, helps shape the menu and has a hand in the bar. She looks after guests because that's how she likes to run a restaurant.

Ask Her What's Good

Not sure what to order? Ask her. She'll point you to a good dish, and she'll tell you what goes together.

Indian Street Food in Brunswick: What to Order

Our food menu is inspired by regional Indian cooking. Here's where to start.

Snacks to Share

  • Crispy spinach. This is our signature. Spinach leaves are fried until crisp, then tossed in house masala and served with tamarind raita.

  • Bhang samosas. Spiced potato and peas in a crisp shell, served with mint-tamarind sauce.

  • Pani puri. Little cracker balls filled with potatoes, peas, and tangy pani. You pop the whole thing in your mouth.

  • Kerala fried chicken. Crispy tamarind fried chicken with date chutney.

  • Nepalese momos. Steamed dumplings with chicken or paneer, served with house-made sesame sauce.

  • More snacks. Salmon 65 is crispy spiced salmon with curry leaf, garlic, and chilli. Eggplant chips are chickpea-battered and come with tomato kasundi. Pappadums and dips are a good start while you decide.

Curries Worth Ordering

Meat and seafood

  • Butter chicken: tender chicken in a spiced tomato and butter sauce, finished with cream.

  • Rajasthani goat: slow-cooked, bone-in goat with red chillies, garlic and fresh coriander.

  • Kori Gassi: a Mangalorean chicken curry with curry leaves, chillies and coconut.

  • Prawn moilee: prawns simmered with turmeric, ginger, coconut, tomatoes and spinach.

Vegetarian

  • Charred broccolini: a creamy coconut curry with fresh mint, ginger, turmeric and coriander.

  • Bharli vanghi: eggplant with roasted spices, peanuts and coconut in a Maharashtrian curry.

  • Gobi korma: roasted cauliflower with blackened raisins, toasted cashews and almond curry.

  • Butter paneer masala: golden-fried paneer in a buttery tomato masala.

Panchmel daal

A Rajasthani five-lentil curry, slow-cooked and tempered with aromatic spices, coriander and chilli. It's a good partner for any curry on the table.
Chef's Specials

Chef's Specials

Look for Kerala salmon, beef rendang, lamb seekh kebab, phaldari kofta and 2-way chicken tikka. These change how a table feels. Add one or two to your order and you've got something extra to share.

One Plate, No Decisions

The Bhang Thali. A one-course platter with a rotating curry, momo, samosa, veg curry, daal, raita, gulab jamun, rice, pappadum and naan. It comes in veg and non-veg.

The Chef's Biryani. Layered, spiced basmati rice with classic raita and hot pickles. Choose chicken 65, goat-on-bone or Sri Lankan eggplant moju.

Sides and Dessert

Rice, naan and sides. Add basmati or saffron rice, kachumber, hot sour pickles and a naan or two. The garlic cheese naan goes with everything. House-made dips include classic raita, mint raita, date tamarind, pineapple and black pepper, and tomato kasundi.

Something sweet. Gulab jamun comes with ice cream. The chai sticky date pudding is a sweet finish. An affogato is a lighter one.

Eating Vegan, Vegetarian or Gluten Free?

Many dishes are marked vegan or gluten-free on the full menu. If you have an allergy, please let our team know when ordering.
